What’s Your Plan?
Forget resolutions; what’s your plan for 2012? Are you planning that special vacation for your family? Maybe looking at another car? More kids? Or getting away from the kids? If you want to accomplish anything in this life, it always helps to have a plan. However, even the best of plans can be changed by life’s events. Likewise, the best of intentions can be lost in the business of life.
Whatever plans you have made for 2012, were you sure to schedule God in? “Sure Preacher, I have some time on a Sunday…sometimes…depending on my other plans.” Well good for you! Now I want you to take your calendar and mark every Sunday for time with God. “Well now, I can’t commit to every Sunday.” Then, I want you to mark every Wednesday. “I’ve never been a Wednesday church goer.” Go ahead and mark Saturday too. “Hey, now just wait one second!” Now…. “Now?” Now mark Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as days to schedule God in. “Ok, I get you. God is always with us. We take him everywhere we go.” That’s right, so take God to church. If you believe that God dwells in you, what do you think He is thinking when you choose not to go to meet with your church family? What do you think He’s thinking when you haven’t planned Him into your daily life?
“But there are times I just don’t feel like going.” Fine, go for someone else who is encouraged by seeing you there. It’s when you don’t feel like coming that you really need to be there. You need to plan God into every day of your life. Church on Sunday, Bible study on Wednesday, personal devotions everyday. When you plan Him into your everyday life, you will find out God’s plan for you. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” – Jeremiah 29:11 Then you can adopt the attitude of the missionary below.
Two Land Rovers almost collided at an African cross roads. One driver stuck his head out his window and shouted: "Where are you going, for Heaven’s sake?" A missionary stuck his head out of the other vehicle's window and smilingly called back: "I go everywhere for Heaven’s sake."
God bless.
